1744 Horse (Cavalry) Carbine (790)
This is one of the earliest Land Service Carbines. It has a 37" tapered and flared barrel in .62 or .66 caliber. Basically all furniture is a reduced size Brown Bess. The lock is an early curved style reduced size, marked Vaughan (who died in 1745). This carbine was first produced with a wooden rammer. The stock has full carving around tang and lock panels. Sling bar is mounted on left side. The lock plate measures 6" x 1 1/16". The throw of the cock is 1 11/16".
