Richard Colten made the patterns for this lock. This gentleman has done the most in-depth studies on the English Snaphaunce and English type locks to date. This lock also has a safety to lock the sear and can be primed and carried with the cock down. There are many small details on the English and Dutch types which are not found on the Arab type snaphaunces. This is a very high quality lock. These early fantail muskets are really nice holding guns, and they were used alot longer than people think. The snaphaunce locks came into development in the late 1500’s and were very popular throughout the world. They were much easier to make and more dependable than wheellocks. This lock set comes with a complete set of instructions. The barrel on this Snaphaunce is a 46" octagon to round, in .75 caliber. The lock plate measures 9.5" x 1.65". The cock throw is 2.5".
