The India Pattern Musket was originally made for the Eaast India Company, but in 1793, the English were very short of arms and decided to adopt the East India Pattern which was easier and cheaper to make, with simplified a butt plate, trigger guard, and side plate. Deleting the thumbpiece and one thimble. The barrel was also shorter. It has a 39" tapered round barrel in .75 caliber. It originally had a gooseneck cock, in 1809 they started producing the ringneck cock (double throated cock). The lock markings on the East India Muskets were the 4 quartered heart with the letters "V" (United), "E" (East), "I" (India), "C" (Company) with a cross or the figure "4" at the top (the cross was changed because of Moslem objections). The contractors name was engraved in the center and the date above the heart. In 1810 these markings were changed to the standing lion hold a crown as shown above. The lock plate measures 6 3/4" x 1 3/16". The throw of the cock is 1 7/8".

We do not sell any original pieces on this web site only reproduction's of the original parts we have copied.
